Retail Safari at the 2014 CES – Day 2 (Part 2)

January 13, 2014

2014 CES Intel experience focusThe Retail Safari team attended the Intel Retail Breakfast at the Venetian Hotel and Chris Holst shared some of the highlights of the “Experiences for 2014” presentation:

• Free me:

– No wires – Intel is looking at wireless charging options for all devices and increasingly long battery life to untether and free consumers from power   packs and wires.

– No passwords – Intel and McAfee hardware level security will be coming to ALL mobile devices protecting consumers and reducing the need for multiple passwords and authentication requirements (out of interest, Intel stated that the average US PC user ha up to 16 passwords they need to remember).

• Know me:

– Speech assistance – Intel and Dragon’s speech recognition software was demonstrated at the show showcasing seamless integration of speech recognition with Windows 8 allowing the user to complete such tasks a playing music, movies and content locally or over the internet, booking flights and finding information and files without touching the device.  This area is very exciting and demonstrated beautifully so I highly recommend watching online videos of it in action if you get a chance.

• Immerse me:

– 3D usages and Visual assistance – Intel also showcased their new 3D sense camera which will be integrated into PCs, tablets and phones allowing such functions as user recognition in place of passwords and security, 3D scanning of the environment and objects and subsequent 3D printing replication of those objects.  This was demonstrated at the keynote where an Intel “Bunnyman” figure was scanned and then replicated in key ring form during the presentation.

– Augmented reality type applications will become increasingly impressive through this technology using Intel 3D sense cameras etc.  Demonstrations were given bringing children’s stories to life in the theatre where a 3D whale ship from the Leviathan story was shown flying around the theatre (worth a watch in the keynote video).
